Tim Smith and his crew are by far the most professional technicians I have ever seen work. Tim came out to my house for an initial inspection of the unit and contacted me again within 24 hours with the estimate of a new unit including needed duct line work. Tim ordered the needed unit and he and his crew returned to my house within 36 hours and installed the unit. From start to finish, he and his crew took 4 hours and hauled off the old unit. No trash was left behind. I’ve hired other HVAC companies in the past for other properties and Tim with Estes Heating & Air have set the bar for customer service and professionalism. Their prices are competitive and handle the whole project themselves. No needs to hire outside electricians or hidden costs for the home owner. I will only use Estes from now on. A big thank you to Tim Smith!!

Bruce W of Estes Heating & Air was the first (of at least 6, incl the original installer) HVAC professional to clearly diagnose and explain why our 4-1/2 year old heat pump system wasn’t performing as expected, didn’t heat well in winter and was causing our energy use to spike. Others tried to sell us new systems (in part because that’s what we said we thought we needed) but a couple neighbors referred us to Bruce and Estes, and we were relieved that while our system’s issues were meaningful, they were fixable in a day. Bruce and his crew of 3 arrived at our home promptly as scheduled and within a day they’d repaired and expanded our ductwork and added a return to dramatically improve airflow, installed a whole home air filter they’ll change annually so I’m out of the quarterly filter-changing business, installed a UV air purifier, cleaned our air handler, replaced (under warranty) our expansion valve, and replaced several restrictive supply and return grills that were inhibiting airflow. They cleaned up after themselves and treated our home with respect. The difference in air comfort is noticeable and we’re optimistic our system will perform much better, including in the periodic below-20 degree temps we get in South Carolina. Well done, Estes team.

Frequent Ask Questions

Check out common questions from your neighbors

Q Why does my house smell like fish when I haven’t cooked fish?

A

A strange fishy smell can sometimes come from overheating electrical components, damaged wiring, or melting plastic around a switch, outlet, fixture, or appliance. If you notice this odor near an electrical source, it is important to turn off the affected equipment and have it inspected rather than attempting to mask the smell. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) identifies unusual odors, hot outlets, sparks, and flickering lights as potential warning signs of electrical issues.

Q Why does my toilet flush or refill by itself in the middle of the night?

A

Your toilet probably isn't haunted. "Ghost flushing" usually happens when water slowly leaks from the tank into the bowl, causing the fill valve to turn on periodically. A worn flapper, seal, or other tank component is often responsible. Besides being annoying, it can quietly waste water.

Q Why does my house smell like sewer gas only when it rains?

A

Rain can expose plumbing problems that aren't as noticeable during dry weather. Possible causes include drain or sewer issues, compromised seals, venting problems, or changes in pressure within the drainage system. If the odor repeatedly returns after heavy rain, a plumber can help locate where sewer gases may be entering the property.

Q Why is one spot on my floor suddenly warm?

A

If you have plumbing beneath or near the floor, an unexplained warm area can sometimes indicate a hot-water leak. Other explanations are possible depending on the home's construction and mechanical systems. If the warm spot is new, especially with higher water bills, sounds of running water, or unexplained moisture, it deserves investigation.

Q Why does my AC sound like water is moving inside the walls?

A

Gurgling, bubbling, or dripping sounds can be related to condensation drainage, refrigerant movement, ductwork, or another HVAC issue. Some operating sounds are normal, but a new or persistent water-like noise, particularly with visible moisture or poor cooling, should be checked before it leads to water damage or a larger system problem.

Q Why does my shower suddenly turn freezing cold, or extremely hot, when someone flushes a toilet?

A

Changes in water pressure can affect the balance of hot and cold water reaching an older shower valve. Pressure-balancing or thermostatic valves are designed to reduce dramatic temperature swings. An Estes plumber can determine whether the issue comes from the shower valve, pressure, piping, or another part of the plumbing system.

Q Why is an electrical outlet warm when nothing is plugged into it?

A

.This issue should not be overlooked. Electrical connections can still pass through an outlet even if it is not in use. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warns that outlets or switches that feel unusually warm may indicate unsafe wiring conditions. They recommend that you stop using the affected outlet and have the problem assessed by a qualified electrician.

Q Why does my heat pump look frozen while it's heating my house?

A

A little frost on an outdoor heat pump can occur during cold, humid weather. Heat pumps periodically enter a defrost cycle to remove it. But a unit that becomes heavily covered in ice, stays frozen, or stops heating effectively may have an airflow, refrigerant, control, or equipment problem that needs service.

Q Why does my plumbing make a loud bang when I shut off a faucet?

A

That bang is often called water hammer. It happens when moving water suddenly stops or changes direction inside the piping. High water pressure, loose pipes, failing arrestors, or other plumbing conditions can make it worse. If it happens frequently, it's worth correcting rather than simply living with the noise.

Q Do I really need a permit just to replace my AC, water heater, or electrical equipment in Milton?

A

Possibly, The City of Milton states that residential permits are generally required when adding or replacing HVAC mechanical equipment and when moving or adding plumbing appliances, electrical wiring, or electrical services. Requirements depend on the scope of the project, so homeowners should verify current requirements before work begins.
