How Do You Know You Need Air Conditioning Service?
Simply, there are three things to consider:
Is your air conditioning unit behaving strangely?
This might include blowing hot air, frequent stops and starts or spikes in your utility bill.
Does your air conditioning unit make strange sounds?
These are different from the usual sounds it makes when it comes on and shuts off. Typical descriptions include clicks, screeches, squeals, hisses or grinding noises.
Is there an odd odor?
Burning or musty odors warrant an appointment with an Estes professional.
Before You Call for Air Conditioning Service
Sometimes, when the weather reaches atypical levels for heat and humidity, your air conditioner may function properly but is simply unable to keep up. We also recommend customers check these three things:
Verify the settings are correct.
Walk around the outdoor AC unit and check for debris. It’s common for plants to grow too close and obstruct airflow. Sometimes after the winter or storms, debris including leaves, twigs and other yard waste get trapped in the vents. Clear away plants from around the AC unit. If something’s stuck in the blades or it looks like a blade is bent, call Estes.
We cannot stress this enough. A clogged filter compromises the performance of your heating and air equipment. Check it monthly and change as needed.
Air Conditioning Replacement and AC Installation
It’s rarely an easy decision to replace an air conditioning unit. It’s a big investment in your home and most people wait until it’s absolutely necessary. We understand this and offer free estimates and second opinions for new HVAC equipment. We’ve served the Atlanta community for 70 years now and offer finance options to make the decision easier.
When we consult with a homeowner, we carefully assess each home and household’s needs. The structure of the building and the homeowner’s energy goals figure into our consultant’s calculations.
It’s crucial to size the air conditioner appropriately. Too big is just as bad as too small. Trust Estes Services to make this big investment an easy one. After all, it’s not just comfort. Air conditioning is often about health and safety too!
Air Conditioning Preventive Maintenance
Our CEO Tommy Estes grew up in the business, under his father’s direction. As Tommy grew into a larger role in the company, he realized many of the first air conditioning units Estes installed were maturing too.
Tommy Estes pioneered the concept of the Maintenance Agreement and now it’s a big part of our company. Why? Because regular maintenance saves customers money, time and hassles.
Regular service helps your air conditioning system run more efficiently and cost less to operate. Professional maintenance keeps warranties valid and prevents more costly repairs. Neglect of any machine is a recipe for problems including breakdowns.
Take advantage of the agreement – we can customize one for you to include plumbing and electrical services too!
Air Conditioning Tune-up
An air conditioning tune-up includes a comprehensive inspection of your cooling unit from top to bottom. Our technicians clean the components and lubricate as necessary. They check the integrity of belts and tighten connections. They test controls and electrical switches. Tune-ups also note any signs of distress. This helps address problems while they’re still small.
Common Indoor Air Quality Problems and Air Conditioning
Many Atlanta residents are unaware of the impact of their home’s heating and air system on the air they breathe indoors. According to the EPA, we spend 90 percent of our time indoors where the air is often two to five times MORE polluted than outdoors.
Common indoor pollutants include mold/mildew spores, dust mites, pollen, virus and bacteria particulates, and dander. At Estes Services we can help! We recommend:
First: Routine tune-ups of your air conditioning equipment
Second: Regular air filter changes
Third: Installation of air quality products, such as dehumidifiers, UV air purifiers, and humidifiers (yes, even in Atlanta!)
Many Atlanta residents live with allergies, asthma, COPD and other respiratory illnesses aggravated by these airborne triggers. Also vulnerable to the effects of poor air quality are people with certain cardiac conditions and suppressed immune systems as well as infants and children. Air quality improvements are good for everyone, so consider them for your home.
Air Conditioning Equipment Financing
There are many benefits to air conditioning finance options. Whether you’d like to improve your home’s air quality and comfort or you’re faced with a breakdown on summer’s hottest day, we’ve got you covered.
The advantages include the ability to spread out payments and the immediate energy savings from a more efficient air conditioning system. Besides, it’s more than comfort, it’s often about health and safety.
If you find the cost to repair an air conditioner is significant, ask yourself, is my current air conditioner efficient? Your homebuilder may have installed the bare minimum. This might be an opportunity to spend a little more and upgrade from an okay air conditioner to a great one.
Also, consider the age of your current system. In the south, our air conditioners work hard and last less than the national average. If your air conditioner is close to 8-10 years old and has had frequent problems, strongly consider an upgrade.
Finance options make the payments manageable, you immediately save on utilities with a more efficient AC unit and your warranty has a fresh start.
Typical HVAC Warranty Coverage
Warranty coverage varies by manufacturer and by model. One of the reasons we partnered with Carrier many years ago was because of the quality of their products. We stand behind the equipment we represent and it’s easy to be confident with Carrier in your corner!
In general, air conditioners and heat pumps have two main warranty coverages. One is for the compressor, often the most expensive component to replace.
Most warranties are written plainly and are easy to understand. Requirements are fairly basic. Most of the time it includes timely registration after the professional installation date and regular upkeep.
Neglect of your equipment may void your warranty, so take advantage of our preventive maintenance plan to reduce your risk. For specific details, refer to the manufacturer information and talk to your Estes Services professional. We love questions, so don’t be shy!
Brands of Air Conditioners, Ductless Mini-Splits and Heat Pumps
Estes has a long partnership with the Carrier company as a Factory Authorized Dealer. We are pleased to offer Carrier products for many of our air conditioners, heat pumps and air handlers.
When it comes to ductless air conditioning and heat pumps, we also represent, sell and install products from Mitsubishi Electric.
We carry air quality equipment, such as humidifiers, media air cleaners, dehumidifiers and UV air purifiers from Carrier, Honeywell, Aprilaire and APCO. We feature programmable thermostats from Honeywell and Carrier.
Naturally, we repair and service all the air conditioner, ductless and heat pump brands we represent. Our technicians, however, repair any brand of air conditioning equipment.
You may be familiar with many air conditioner brands, although there’s a small group of HVAC manufacturers in America. This is a common practice in manufacturing, as companies acquire each other.
